Welcome to Doku. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Doku mobile application for learning French.

Information We Collect

Information Stored Locally on Your Device

Doku does not require account creation. All your learning data is stored locally on your device and includes:

• Your reading progress and story completion data
• Quiz results and learning statistics
• Words you've looked up in the dictionary
• Your learning preferences and settings
• Streak and goal information
• Local notification preferences

Automatically Collected Information

Currently, Doku collects minimal automatically collected information:

• Device information (iOS version, device model) for compatibility purposes
• App crash reports to help us fix technical issues

Future Analytics: We plan to implement PostHog analytics to better understand app usage and improve user experience. When implemented, we will update this policy and notify users accordingly.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and maintain the Doku app
• Track your learning progress locally on your device
• Recommend stories suited to your level
• Enable features like streaks, goals, and progress tracking
• Send local notifications for streak reminders (if enabled by you)
• Debug and fix technical issues through crash reports

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage: The vast majority of your learning data is stored locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is protected by your device's security features.

No Cloud Sync: We do not currently sync your data to cloud servers or external databases.

Security: We implement appropriate technical measures to protect any data we process. Your local data is as secure as your device.

Notifications

Doku uses local notifications (not push notifications) to remind you about your learning streaks and goals. These notifications are:

• Generated and managed entirely on your device
• Completely optional and can be disabled in the app settings
• Do not require internet connection or external servers

In-App Purchases

If you make in-app purchases:

• Payments are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play Store
• We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status
• We do not store your payment information
• Your payment data is handled according to Apple's and Google's privacy policies

Cookies and Tracking

Doku does not use cookies or web-based tracking technologies.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We may share minimal data with:

• RevenueCat: For managing subscription and purchase status
• Apple/Google: Through their app stores for crash reporting and basic analytics
• Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights

Data Retention

Since your data is stored locally on your device:

• Data persists as long as the app is installed
• Deleting the app removes all your local data
• We do not retain data on external servers (except minimal crash reports, which are automatically deleted after 90 days)

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Control all your data (it's on your device)
• Delete your data by uninstalling the app or clearing app data
• Disable local notifications in settings
• Request information about any data we may process
• Contact us with privacy concerns

Children's Privacy

Doku is designed for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or 16 in the EU). Our app does not require account creation or collect personal data, making it suitable for use by learners of all ages under parental guidance.

International Users

Doku is developed in France and complies with GDPR requirements. Since data is stored locally on your device, international data transfers are minimal and limited to crash reports and future analytics (when implemented).

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time, particularly when we add new features like PostHog analytics. We will notify you of any significant changes through:

• An in-app notification
• Updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy
• Email notification (for significant changes, if we have your email through app store)
